Astralounge writes:

"4) the material condition of women's lives - if women are, as feminists have argued, oppressed and therefore have a limited range of options, isn't anxiety/depression a fairly normal and even psychologically healthy/appropriate response?"

Anxiety and depression as a generalized state of being are never a healthy/appropriate response to anything, assuming that you view healthy/appropriate as synonymous with functional. Even in a localized fashion, these responses could only be considered useful in so far as they encourage one to take steps to address the issue that engendered the anxiety or depression in the first place.

Frankly, based on purely anecdotal evidence, I would have to say that it is exceptionally rare for that to occur.

Other than that though, you still seem pretty smart. For a feminist.

Oh, btw I'm back. At least I think so. Normally this sort of thing wouldn't warrant an entry, but Astralounge has comments turned off.

Note my ongoing grandmotherly kindness: I am not even making a snide remark about the tendency of people with untenable philosophical positions to take steps to prevent others from easily addressing them.
