Blinded by Gender

Astralounge is discussing pornography. Listen:

But I have to wonder about certain things, such as 1) if women are drawn to the business by the money (which some that they talked to last night said they were) is it truly consentual? Or does it point to a flaw in capitalism that one of the best ways for young and uneducated women to make money is through erotic labor? Is the money enough of a coercion that it's not actually consensual (as many radical feminists have argued about prostitution, for instance)?

I will refrain from passing judgment on the dubious act of starting a sentence with "but."

But I have to take issue with the glaring omission in the question that Astralounge raises. To wit... One should not be able to ask the question "does the appeal of money offered for sex work qualify as enough of a coercion to render that sex work 'non-consensual'" without asking another pointed question immediately afterward.

That question (and the concept behind it) is conspicuously absent from Astralounge's entry... which is a shame, since it's a pretty good question.

I'll give you a hint ladies: it has nothing to do with your tits.
