The Temple of the Star

II. The Temple of the Star

Behind the statue stands the star

Which leapt into the lap of God,

And later traveled, far and far

To palaces where devils stood,

Guarding all the world's wounding...

Deep, deep within the scarlet wood.

And in that place the star is standing

As an idol, cold and seeming

Like a god, but undemanding...

Its worshippers forever dreaming...

The world is its Avatar,

And the angels all are screaming.
