"To make killing instinctual, rather than conscious, is inviting pathological, destructive behavior," Grossman says. "We have to give soldiers a vocabulary to talk through emotions and teach them not to be embarrassed by troubling feelings."

We have to do what? What happy, crunchy, all-organic and naturally flavored horseshit is this?

Frankly, I am vastly uninterested in war. The morality or lack of morality inherent in blowing up people on the far side of the world is a concept that is jarringly at odds with the low-grade sociopathy that envelops, sustains and protects me from the virulent stupidity surrounding me.

However, if we are going to execute a particular course of action, can't we at least agree on doing it with a single-minded emphasis on practicality and effectiveness? I mean (as a hypothetical example), the morality of killing children as a demoralizing tactic during warfare is, arguably, objectionable... but killing children as a demoralizing tactic and then providing counseling services and perhaps fertility treatment for the parents is both objectionable and stupid. This is war, not group therapy.

Maybe this is too idealistic... but really, if we've decided that we're going to be totally fucking evil, can't we set aside the touchy-feelie crap for the duration of our maniacal killing spree? Jesus Christ.
